Congress to vote on Darfur

The long awaited moment is finally here – Congress is finally taking steps to do something about the conflict in Darfur. In sometime in the near future, the group will vote to determine if the conflict should be labeled as a genocide, according to Me and Ophelia, a British news blog I've recently started reading.

The United Nations is developing a peacekeeping force, and it's up to us to tell our legislatures how important this is. Citizens are encouraged to write or call Congress members, asking them to fund the mission.

Interested parties can call 1-800-Genocide (1-800-436-6243) to contact their representatives. Concerned individuals are also encouraged to contract members of Congress via e-mail or the postal system.

As of 12/10, 1,207 calls have been made in support of funding a U.N. mission in Darfur. I encourage everyone reading this to do the same. If one person can't make a difference, thousands can. Raise up and use your voices. It's for a good cause.

Without a doubt it is for a good cause Ashley, but it cant just be the U.S. Are any other countries ready to match or exceed the contribution and action we'd propose? Too often the States seem to get involved in things by themselves for the most part and I feel that might be one of the reasons resentment grows towards us. I'm curious what action other U.N. countries would like to see happen.
