Harrisonburg receives $15,000 grant to promote tourism

The Virginia Tourism Corporation just gave Harrisonburg Tourism and Visitor Services a $15,000 grant to produce a tourism DVD, a tourism brochure, and a two-page spread in the Virginia Travel Guide, according to an article on the Daily News-Record's website. Apparently a dozen local government, non-profit and local agencies provided an additional $32,000 for the project.

Personally, I didn't know Harrisonburg was that big on tourism. I kind of assumed that the only people who ever visited were families of loved ones on the holidays or JMU parents during parent's weekend. According to these numbers, however, it looks like tourism may have been a bigger deal than I imagined in H-burg.

That said, I suppose it could go the opposite direction as well — is Harrisonburg's tourism rates so low that we have to pump tens of thousands of dollars into is resuscitation? Tell me what you think by leaving me a comment below.
