A few weeks ago I blogged about a ridiculous notice I received about a student who ran into a JMU building and shot another student with a toy Nerf gun. The student was caught and identified, and the e-mail sent out police had labeled it as a prank so I never really thought anymore about it.
That is, until I received an e-mail from a staff writer saying that the incident may have been a lot more than a joke between friends. From what I've heard, and what I've been trying to confirm, is that the student ran into the building wearing a face mask and hiding the toy Nerf gun beneath his jacket before he shot the other student with the foam dart. Apparently some students were so scared that they were crying and calling members of their families.
Tomorrow I'll spend a lot of time getting in contact with people and update you as soon as I know anything.
In the meantime, does anyone out there have any information about this incident? I'm trying to find out what exactly went on and could use all the help I can get. Leave me a comment below if you know anything or have any suggestions about how to get in contact with someone.
UPDATE — Ed. note: Since this posting I have spoken with Don Egle, university spokesperson for JMU. He confirmed all the information sent out by police, but could not confirm that the suspect was wearing a face mask or that he had yelled for students to get down when the incident occured. Egle did say that the student had referenced a South Park line, although he did not say what that line was. The suspect, who was a student at JMU, is currently awaiting charges.

hey, I was actually in the psych class when this happened and yes, he was wearing a mask and he got up and yelled at the guy, "You took my job!" Or something along those lines. He then "shot" the guy and turned around and ran out of the classroom. He got to out class at 1: 45 (class doesn't start till 2:00) and waited until 2:20 do "prank" us. He had his head down most of the class until he took out the nerf gun.
It just shows you how stupid people are and the dumb choices they can make. Why anyone thought this would be a funny prank is beyond me.
